We live in a world that celebrates external data. Rings are closed. Steps are tracked. Sleep is scored.
And while these tools are useful, they risk disconnecting us from the most profound source of preventive health we have—our emotions.
Your body has always been tracking. Emotions are the original notifications. They signal when something is aligned… or off. When you’re safe… or not. When you’re nourished… or numbed.
Think of emotions as internal wearables:
• Anxiety may be your heart rate monitor telling you your environment feels threatening.
• Exhaustion might be your sleep tracker signaling a need for boundaries.
• Frustration can function like a blood pressure alert—asking you to regulate before you react.
• Joy, peace, and contentment are your internal green lights—confirmation that you’re in a state of coherence.
The key is not to override these feelings with productivity or perfectionism—but to respond with presence.
When we listen to our emotions—not judge or suppress them—we practice somatic prevention. That is: tuning in early, responding gently, and cultivating a body that can heal, shift, and thrive.
This month, try pairing your external wearables with intentional inner check-ins:
• “What am I feeling?”
• “Where do I notice it in my body?”
• “What is this sensation trying to teach me?”
Your nervous system isn’t a nuisance. It’s your most sophisticated form of insight.
Let’s stop outsourcing our awareness. You are the wearable. And you’ve always known the way.
